Among many things, pregnant women will experience widening of the pelvic bowl to allow the baby to pass, and increased stress and pressure on the low back due to postural changes. If the bones in the pelvis are misaligned or restricted then this can reduce the amount of room in the pelvic bowl for the baby and also reduce the ability of pelvic widening which can put unnecessary and unwanted stresses on both mom and baby. Chiropractic has been shown to be very beneficial in soothing mom's ever-changing aches and pains, and also to aid in a quicker and easier delivery.
Dr. Mairs is one of the few chiropractors in the San Jose area that is a member of the American Pregnancy Association. He is also certified in the Bradley Method of Childbirth, and utilizes Dr. Carol Phillips' techniques of prenatal care, which highly emphasizes the use of chiropractic care in combination with muscle therapy. Mothers-to-be are also given home stretching and exercise routines to further prepare their bodies for childbirth. Dr. Mairs also provides extensive education for new moms and families about the many birth options available, so they can make the most informed decisions about their families pre-natal care choices. According to the American Pregnancy Association (APA), chiropractic care during pregnancy may be beneficial with reducing the time of labor & delivery, and in controlling symptoms of nausea. In addition to helping relieve low back pain, neck pain, and headaches that are common with pregnancy. |
