Frozen Shoulder

Injured or Immobilized Shoulder Muscles

The shoulder joint is different from all the other joints in our body. The other major joints in our body, knee and elbow, for instance, are mostly bony joints that allow for only certain motions. Frozen Shoulder caused by injured or immobilized shoulder muscles
Think of them as hinges made up of bones fitting together. The shoulder is different in that it is a muscular joint. Picture a golf ball sitting on a tee. The various muscles of the shoulder girdle keep it in place and are also what allows our shoulders to have such a far greater range of motion versus our other joints.

When these muscles are injured or immobilized then a frozen shoulder can develop. Frozen shoulder typically presents as pain and reduced range of motion of the shoulder. Typically over time the pain, which feels dull and achy, will increase and the range of motion will decrease. NSAID’S and other medications will only decrease the pain and not address the muscle tightness that is causing the frozen shoulder.

At our San Jose chiropractic office we specialize in treatment of soft tissue and extremity disorders, which is why we treat a large number of shoulder injuries. Each shoulder injury is different and we custom tailor a treatment plan that will be most beneficial for each individual. Some of the types of therapy that we use are Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (SASTM), ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, massage & myofascial release, shoulder adjustments, and stretching & strengthening routines.
